Ten videos, clips and articles about the “treasures” of the ancient village of Krokhino were prepared for Vologda residents by the Krokhino Charitable Foundation thanks to the VK media grant. All of them are published in the community “Krokhino. Unsubmerged Stories” vk.com/krokhino, where they can be found by the hashtag #chronicles_museum_krokhino
All the items are in one way or another connected with the history of the village of Krokhino at the source of the Sheksna River from the White Lake, which was flooded in the 1960s during the construction of the Volga-Baltic Waterway. The only surviving building of the village, the Church of the Nativity of Christ, has survived thanks to the lighthouse installed on its dome. Since 2010, the Foundation’s team and volunteers have been preserving the unique church lighthouse and studying the history of the village: searching for information in archives, recording the memories of settlers, and collecting a collection of Krokhino artefacts.
Today, the Foundation’s collection includes more than 150 items: family relics donated by descendants of settlers, as well as things and individual fragments found on the territory of the flooded village. In the future, all of them will be included in the exposition of the White Lake Museum of Unsubmerged Stories, which the Krokhino Foundation is creating in Belozersk.
Short videos about the exhibits of the future museum allow you not only to immerse yourself in the history of the flooded Belozersk village, but also to learn a lot of new and unexpected things about ordinary things that make up the unique exposition.
How can the owner of an antique seal be identified if only his surname and initials are known? Where does a shotgun blast come from in an old wooden frame from a rural church window? How could a lady’s corsage watch come in handy on the fronts of the First World War? What kind of headdress did a bride from Krohinsky Posad wear a hundred and more years ago? You can find out the answers to these questions by watching the project playlist at vk.com.
The most notable of the Krokhino artefacts are devoted not only to videos, but also to short clips that can be watched “on the run”, and large illustrated articles have been written for lovers of leisurely reading. On 29 November in the community “Krokhino. Unsubmerged Stories” vk.com/krokhino community will vote for the most interesting Krokhino artefact!
